The goal of Back Bump’s 1st Annual Children’s Fundraiser and Mixer was assist families such as the Calderon Family as well as raise funding for research to help find the cure for childhood cancers. Ryan’s mother Nicki Thibodeaux was also diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer on the same day as he was, Memorial Day 2008.
My name is Ryan Calderon and I am 8 years old. I started my childhood cancer journey at the age of 4 when I was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoid Leukemia (“ALL”), a fast-growing and life threatening cancer of the blood that affects the body’s ability to fight infections.
Check out My Story to get a glimpse into what I have been up to and drop me a line if want to find out more. I always love to hear from my fellow warriors.
With the assistance of sponsors and several professional athletics Chandler Parsons-Houston Rockets. Quinton Dimps-Houston Texans and Antwaun Molden-New York Giants we were able to raise money for families fighting childhood cancer, such as the Calderon Family. We did not get to meet little Ryan, he was at home resting after his bone marrow transplant. However, I know that had he been there he would have been greeted with open arms of many who support him. It was a nice night looking over The City of Houston from The Mosaic. Andre Pitre set the event of with a fun and joyful voice… not to mention his sweet smile. We had a lovely and uplifting performance by the White Wings Dance Group who entertained us with their emotional and expressive movements.
I met some athletes from Houston’s Newest Women’s team, The Lady Panthers from the Lady Arena Football League. Their season kicks off this Saturday April, 19!
